I think the key to getting high clocks is to keep the damn thing cool...
Fan speed at 45% keeps my gpu temp no higher than 60 degrees under FULL load...imageine what higher fan speeds can do.
Normally, when I was trying to get the fan hack to work with an overclock done with the gpu tool, it wasnt working, but now, somehow as i've reformatted, it suddenly works. So guess what, instant pwnage.
EDIT: Well...not exactly 60deg under full load, but...close enough.
I must say, im more than pleased with this.

Fan hack LOL it's easy to just set the fan speeds in a new bios and reflash it ya know
or use the default.xml profile and manually enter a new fan speed like 50% then make a CC profile with suitable fan speeds. I am working on a 4850 bios my self where 35% is the base fan an have it ramp up to 75% @ 70c, I've tried this on my 4850 ( as well as rmoving the 700 wall ) but still need some tweaking, if I get a 4870 I can mod that bios to if needed, but with the 4870 it's a 128k bios so careful when flashin/editing cause if you load a 64k on in you kill the card. It's worth it since no more hacking needed the card now works ( or the fans rather ) as it shoulD!

Thank you very much but no thanks on that bios hacking on my spakning new hd4870. I'd rather wait for riva tuner support where I can do all those things w/o risking the card.
For now i'll use the xml hack and clock it manually each time windows starts.

Wow...I don't know how you do it, but 3.5 GHz?
If you consider it though, the G0 CPUs use 10W less power at max load,
than the B3 ones, which translates to a little more OC overhead.
The most I could get my B3 Q6600 to was 3.4 GHz...and even that
was not perfectly stable.

Try doing cable management with good results when using a mother of a HSF like that nah. I double dare you. But what you see there is a result of fitting on that thing. I practically had to scrap the machine to get it in.
CPU seems quite stable @ 3.5. Next stop: 3.6ghz.
Vantage, 3.5 cpu, 820gpu/1100mem.

I like the gains that 2 4870's bring, but i feel that I would only go that route if the price drops. And since going crossfire wold require me to change my mainboard, i feel the 4870x2 is the better option.
I swear that this core contact freezer is the best air cooler available though. Nothing else i've seen cools better.

Thats actualy the cooler i coudlnt rembmer that i was talking about lol.
Yea the core-contact is a beast. Its beter than the stock Thermalright ultra, ESPECIALY at the price point.
But a Lapped Ultra will still win out in the end. But since most ppl dont have the patients to do it, the core-contact wil be the shiz.

Agreed that the true will beat out the sunbeam when lapped, and if you put 2 fans on it even more. BuT one thing alot of these tests don't how is head soak capacity, while the sunbeam and other coolers may offer slightly lower temps, the true handles heat soak better, allowing for higher oc's even with 1-2c higher temps. This shows up time and time again when actually doing oc tests with the coolers, the True allows for consistently higher oc's even with a higher load temps. That and I couldn't find a sunbeam last week at a reliable store so I got the ocz instead, will need to replace the fan and get a beffier psu then start an oc war with you guys, tho my fsb limit is about 420 and with a x8 on the q9450 means nothing past 3.4g for me

Hmmm interesting concept on the heatsoak. Care to post some links to reviews or users demonstrating how the 'true" handes better even at higher temperatures?
