Help with TSTT 256k connection!!
« on: June 05, 2007, 12:47:55 AM »
For a while I have been having trouble with this connection, at first it was gettin on my nerves but didnt care when I broke my vid card(couldnt play any BF2)
The problem is that if I try to download from a http site the speed starts out on 32kbs like it should then slowly but surely drops down to 10-15kbs, the only place that I can get full speed is in uTorrent and that is because I download a lot of stuff at one time.  I tried playing BF2 on my bros dell and my ping starting at 1000, 700 at best, the purpose of the post is to find out if anyone had this trouble and what TSTT did to fix it and or what caused it in the first place, a technician came to my house and plainly told me he didnt know WTF was going on.

Any help will be greatly appreciated my blasted parts are comin in and would love to join my squad a soon as possible since I have been away for so long.

Are you and your brother's pc's are networked, then it could be that he has stuff downloading right through? You can try taking his pc off to see for sure. Are you using any w/less routers that are unsecured. Could be that some one is mooching off of your bandwidth. If not you can try rebooting/resetting the router etc. If still no luck you might have to call in tstt to see if they can figure out what the problem is since it may be on their end.

Btw...what parts are you getting in?

Something else to consider especially when gaming online is that the relative location (by relative I mean relative to YOU) could mean that your latency will be high. As it is, TSTT aDSL latency to the US isn't all that great.. starting in the 100+ms range and upwards from there. It depends on which server you're connecting to. For instance, in Gears of War on Xbox live, when a search is performed to see the available public matches, there is an indicator to let the player know if the connection is good or bad. Basically you may not be able to do anything to improve your connection to the game server because of where in the world it is. Otherwise downloading or other usage of bandwidth can add to your trouble. When on Xbox live on TSTT 256k DSL you CANNOT do ANYTHING else... even MSN messenger will slow down the connection (makes yuh wonder WDMC msn messenger doing eh? since WOW runs while I on live with MUCH less interuption to my gaming but I digress).

My squadmates live in the US so they are buying and shipping the stuff for me.

For the longest time I have been getting very good pings from TSTT it is only in the past couple of months that it is giving trouble.  And trust me nothing else is using the internet as I lockdown my pc thoroughly.

Thanks for the site was always looking for someway to test the internet other than TSTT bandwith meter and speedtest.net.

Due to the size of my monitor and the resolution I can run at it was the only option other than the 2900 and I am not an early adopter

Now this is just strange was up watching a dvd that just downloaded when I noticed that the net went down, when it came back checked tstt.co.tt the webmail thing and it said that it was down for maintenance after that was done I noticed my net running full speed(strange to me since I normally cant get 30k, 26-28k was the most I got in utorrent)  So just in case I started my bros pc and loaded BF2  and it ran perfectly ping was 100-130 which is good enough for me.  Damn TSTT was going to cuss them like hell in the mornin but since it lookin like it fix will let them go for now hope it stays working.

And my monitor is a 22 inch running at 1600x1080.
