World In Conflict
« on: September 18, 2007, 09:22:56 PM »
A promising new RTS has been Released : World In Conflict .

Set in an alternate history where the Soviet Union started World War III to prevent its eventual collapse , it promises to be interesting . Unlike other RTS , there is no base building .

The gameplay is multiplayer centric , focusing on small numbers of units and teamplay . Eg.  One player may choose to focus on Armour , building tanks , and will need another Support player to give  him cheap and effective Anti Aircraft cover.

Demo available on website.

Produced by the same company that did 'Ground Control' Also an RTS with no base building , so we can expect polished gameplay as the formula should have been perfected over many years.

It's more of an action game than an RTS...I mean, it uses RTS controls, but there's none of the annoying resource gathering to have to worry about or micro manage, and so it lets you stick to the core of the gameplay...blowin things up and wreaking havoc on the enemy.

I bought it not too long after it came out and only just got a chance to play it. I like it. It keeps the RTS element minus the resource gathering. Ive only played a couple stages, it feels kinda like a C&C scenario but no uber future weapons since this is set in 1989. And again, you gain points from pwning enemies which turns into units dropped to capped deploy areas. Nice idea.

The voice acting is good enough but the script is terrible, however the gameplay is the most fun. I hope there is some kinda twist in this game somewhere so that i can not just expect you to keep fighting soviets and then save the US, thats kinda.....boring :P as far as storyline goes.

Single player in the game is very good , definitely  the best RTS of the year , in fact the best i'v played since Warcraft III..

Story is simple  but with involving characters , not the greatest but the best i'v seen in awhile .

MY only beef is that you are usually so far above the action that you can't always appreciate the graphics... What would make the game perfect would be a view mode that would allow you to see your soldiers actually fighting... first person if possible .

Haven't played multi yet , but i'd imagine it would be very dread...

we should organize a local server!
