Unreal Tournament 3 is Vista DX10 compliantYet more goblin-bashingBy Wily Ferret: Friday 11 May 2007, 09:33WHILE THEO waxed lyrical about the upcoming release of Unreal Tournament 3 yesterday, the one thing he forgot to mention was that the game will be DX10 and tied to GraphZilla's TWIMTBP programme. We first saw the game in action at the GeForce 7 launch here in France, and got the opportunity to speak with Epic MegaHoncho Mark Rein, who seemed pretty happy with the way the game was progressing. That was a long time ago now, and since then, a number of Xbox 360 titles have shipped using the titular graphics engine, whilst UT3 itself has been stuck in game development hell.Gears of War, the most high profile UE3 title, was developed and tweaked for the ATI Xenos architecture in the Xbox 360, but the creators of the engine, it seems, have been working closely with Nvidia for its first outing on the PC. This isn't really a big surprise - UT2004 was heavily branded with Nvidia logos. So if you want the best out of Unreal Engine 3, it seems like you're going to need to be running Vista with an 8800. As Theo said, expect this to be a majorly popular benchmark - but with the release date still to be set in stone, don't hold your breath. µ
Either way this game is gonna ROCK
The third act sounds like it'll be kept a surprise for now, but the first two acts both look and sound incredible, from what we saw. Crysis will support both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10, which means that you can run it on a Windows XP PC, as well as an upcoming Windows Vista PC. You'll get the absolute best graphics with a Vista machine, but DirectX 9 still will look good. The version of the game we saw was using a DirectX 9 machine "simulating" DirectX10 by brute force, and it looked amazing
