i aint read the article yet but i read somewhere that billy only sell about 400 legit copies of vista in china. maybe that should be in the 'things that make you go wtmc' thread.
and for the record nothing really wrong with vista as far as i see it eh i not saying it perfect but i use it as my secondary os and apart from 30%/50% cpu usage while idle (with dreamscene) it never really do me no wrong.

just read the article well i have 2 things to say about that... :
1) Ha HA HAAA microsoft gonna die.
2) for some reason i don't think they gonna die ay time soon after all this time and with all that money dieing is not really an option. they must have some kind of fail-safe in place e.g. have a contract signed my nvidia, intel and dell with info about ms owning them and a blank date or something like that...

while I'd love to jump on the ms bashing bandwagon, I think that article is a bit overzealous.

MS has always offered deeply discounted OS and Office Suite apps. They've favoured techies and schools for decades.

Bill himself is a big philantropist and donates millions to good causes.

Granted, Vista isn't without it's problems, but the same could be said of every OS released.

Reading "failure" from DELL offering XP is a bit extreme.

This is a new DELL. They are offering AMD PCs and bought Alienware. Not to mention offering linux on servers. Obviously, things are being done a lil differently at the Texas based computer company.

Falling behind HP in recent times and with stock troubles, DELL is not the best example to use as a sign of Microsoft's failure.

On January 31, 2007, Kevin Rollins, CEO of the company since 2004, resigned abruptly as both CEO and as a director, and Michael Dell returned to the CEO role. Investors and many shareholders had called for Rollins' resignation because of poor company performance. At the same time, the company announced that, for the fourth time in five quarters, earnings would fail to reach consensus analyst-estimates.

In February 2007, Dell became the subject of formal investigations by the US SEC [3] and the US Attorney General for the Southern District of New York. [4] The company has not formally filed financial reports for either the third or fourth fiscal quarter of 2006, and several class action lawsuits [5] [6] have resulted from its recent financial performance. The company's lack of formal financial disclosure would normally subject the company to delisting from the NASDAQ, [7] but the firm has granted Dell a waiver, allowing the stock to trade normally. [8]

On March 1, 2007, for the third consecutive quarter, the company issued a preliminary quarterly earnings report which showed gross sales of $14.4 billion, down 5% year-over-year, and net income of $687 million (30 cents per share), down 33%. Net earnings would have declined even more if not for the effects of eliminated employee bonuses, which accounted for six cents per share. NASDAQ has extended the company's deadline for filing financials to May 4. [9]

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Oh and berserk, I saw Vista running on a PC with 2gb ram, 7900 vid card and Core 2 Duo processor and it ran slowwwww! I was shocked when I saw the specs. Xp would fly on that hardware, but vista was running like molasses. Same for Office 2007. Incidentally, the machine was a dell. lol

it doesn't perform badly on my pc it's just that my power supply is about a few hundred watts below what it should be it should be 550w but it is about 240. and i never really play any game on it cause i have it installed on a 20 gb hdd vista+ office 2007 = no free space. so never game check me back in nine days though cause i according to game spot that is when halo 2 coming out and well according to the rules you must play halo 2 on the pc. so when that out i'll put some real effort into playing game on vista. but all in all if your pc like mine then running vista without dreamscene preview should be no problem at all
one of my partners running vista ultimate with only 512 ddr400 a geforce 6200 and a 1.6-2.0ghz processor (don't even think it so fast i just guessing based on the other parts)  and it running comfortably for the most part. in fact it when i think about it it moved pretty much like mine... i wont say shell out the money for that right now but i just dont see why people bashing the thing before they really try it.

and for the record that same UAC(user account controll)  thing people always hating on (i think that that is what the permission thing lilith mentioned is called, correct me if i am wrong) save my pc from infection a few times like when i insert a random flash drive and there is a virus set as the auto play.

Apple is in all their glory now!

+ Its time for Microsoft to step aside in the OS field.... They around for too long...

A new major competitor I think would be a good move in a new OS future...

Apple is in all their glory now!

+ Its time for Microsoft to step aside in the OS field.... They around for too long...

A new major competitor I think would be a good move in a new OS future...

anyhow you cut it, MS is the 800 pound gorilla in the industry... as far as desktops go, bill has the market with his heel on its throat..

sucky or not, people are in a 'Windows 'cycle ( third party apps , consumer familiarity with the environment , 3rd party hardware support, market share , OEM support)  and they eh goin anwhere for quite some time..

as a contender, you'd need all dem guns firin in order to combat the behemoth that is windows.. and even then is still a uphill struggle

the last OS to REALLY go against windows was OS/2....  with the backing of another gorilla ( ibm) and that died a slow painful death...

anyone remember BeOS, btw?

*silence*

thought so....

Steve eh go license OSX for regular pc consumption, cuz at the end of the day, Apple is not a software company.. it is a hardware company .. OSX exists soley to put on Macs as the trump card..

besides, i doh think it have enough money in the world to go directly against MS in a desktop war...MS will crush you with the power of its IMMENSE war chest of cold hard cash...

which is where linux steps in...  no one company is footing the bill..   and it has an ideology behind it ( and even so, u doh have to buy into the ideology to use it  lol)

so it can't be bought out, run out of business, intimidated or made unfashionable..

it will always be there...no matter what.. red hat could go outta business, IBM could implode, heck , novell could start sellin Vista machines..

it will always be around....  ( and so will windows, for the forseeable future)
