Beryl + KDE = :(

Has anyone here experienced any problems with Beryl on a KDE desktop?

well i don't know for sure but i've heard that beryl was for x windows alone and since kde is for linux, correct if i'm wrong because i have neither of those.

yeah is that talk self i hearing, but i getting to many contradictory articles, some say it works others say it doesn't some say it works with hacks some say it doesn't work , period, i know men hear self using it. I tried it but the window borders aren't being rendered properly.
It have something to do with the managers conflicting, I'm doing more research as i speak.

BTW I'm using Mandriva One 2007 spring edition, Ubuntu and my mobo dont play well.

if you have an ati graphics card welcome to hell.If you have an Nvidia - yaaay!! - it should actually work with less issues.

 Do you have the fglrx(i may have spelt that wrong) drivers? It may or may not help you, it didn't help me much - now its all based on compiz and compiz will run on gnome or KDE. I do think that XGL is recommened and sumn called AIGLX but not required (ummm gnome and kde kinda runs on X Server if i'm not mistaken lillith-hence the startx to get the gui up and running) Ihave tried and tried but didn't get the cube to work - right now I can't use gnome on FC6 b'c beryl loads and crashes it - been to lazy to un-install beryl and KDE isn't failing me. The most I've managed to get out of the Desktop effects is the transparent windows - what I really want is the cube.

Alas, I ended up settling for the firefox tab effect plug-in (interestingly only for the windows version) that mimics the cube when u switch tabs.


There are some really good tutorials if you google it and you don't have to ditch KDE!!! You prolly just need to install XGL and configure your system to ditch X for XGL. Out of curiousitry what disto are you using?

i got it to work not to long after the last post i made.
i had to disable the meta city window manager, also i switched to fd6 with gnome, beryl and all the other goodies loaded nicely cube worked also.

umm... I'mnot running KDE but I do have a few Beryl issues. When I maximised a window, it would fail to draw the window borders and the title bar would turn into a white band. I added 512MB of RAM and it magically stopped happening.

I also enabled the translucency on the cube and it flickers slightly every now and then when I rotate it. I'm not sure what the scenario is exactly because I have the windows doing the 3d emboss as well.

I have an ati gpu. *steups*
