OLPC OS Live CD

OLPC Live CD

Was looking up on the progress of this project when i stumbled upon this. the release for the OS for the proposed hardware, albeit not a power house it's actually quite attractive, a basic productivity environment for the kiddies.
(Although i don't think it will be replacing ubuntu anytime soon :P)

It doesn't get more simple than this...the One Laptop Per Child OS;

Hmm I thought about putting this up... but I know there aren't that many linux buffs on the forum... either way mine finished downloading this morning, the site was totally congested a few days ago. I will fire it up later on when I get a chance just to see what its got. I'm no linux guy either, but I am interested in learning more about it.

Oh its pretty important to note that AMD is a BIG player in this particular venture :p

Big is an understatement, i surprised AMD didn't supply the rest of the board too :D

i think the likes of us (i.e. people our age) may not be able to fully comprehend sugar though.
This IS an OS designed to break children out of the 'inside of the box' thinking that M$ has forced fed us after all.

I really want this to get of the ground within the next year or 2 (wish full thinking i know), it'll be super duper cool to get my hands on one of those though...i wonder if a geode can be overclocked :D

I've been following their progress as well. The prototypes look pretty decent.

Glad to see the OS is available for use.

sweet.

Will give this a try sometime soon. Maybe with a vm cause I don't have anymore spare PCs.

lol at least make the area round the clouds transparent nuh :P

Here are some scree shots of it running in VMware player:

The basic screen with your little guy, customizable at first start

Moving the cursor to the top-left corner reveals the menu

Word Processing

Practicing basic motor skills

Hitting the round icon at the top of the screen takes you to the 'desktop' with a round taskbar like gui
