Geil launches carbon-fibre RAMThe name reflects the state of the industryBy Theo Valich: Wednesday 18 April 2007, 02:24THERE ARE SEVERAL DRAM manufacturers that are catering to the enthusiasts right now, and we can say that Geil has now gone the furthest distance.The firm just released Esoteria series of memory modules. They plan to cater to the racing car addicts, because the heat-spreaders feature carbon-fibre. This is not a typo - Vorsteiner, German tuner of BMW cars is in charge for manufacturing according carbon-fibre elements, clearly showing that this is a memory not for ninja-PC's, but rather Formulae of PC World.We feel one BMW V8 coming our way, but we're not sure will it use this memory.The memory itself is available in two specifications - PC2-6400 or DDR2-800 and PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066). We have used GeIL's MultiSpec PC2-8500/9600 memory module for close to a year now, and all of this time memory worked at either 1.2 GHz with CAS5, 4-4-15 settings, or at 800 MHz with CAS3, 3-3-9 - all the time at 2.4V, with no issues at all.This memory is specced at CAS4, 4-4-12 latencies, with voltage range going from 2.1 to 2.5 Volts, and SPD is optimised for this amount of punishment. Memory sports limited lifetime warranty, although we are sure of one thing alone - this memory is 99% resistant to the 680i chipset and its 2.4V problem. May may see it ship. µ
