Well I just started over my upgrade

<--- see

and it's tough not having enough money to get all the parts at once...

I stopped cause I think I wanna get a good UPS / voltage regualtor before T&TEC F%^& me up with some bad current

That aside, I wanna get me some new RAM first, 2GB PC3200 is fine with me, 4GB could wait

Next should be the GPU, hoping 8600 out and affordable by then

finally, is level hard drives immc

baego knows how much anime I dl on a regular basis, not to mention games seem to be taking ~10GB per install nowadays

I am 'somewhat' addicted to upgrades and I can tell you, its not cheap, but if you want performance,
you have to be prepared to pay a premium.

One question though:  Why 4 GB DDR400?
Unless you're running the 64-bit version of XP or Vista (32 or 64-bit) its very inefficient.  The 32-bit version
of XP does not fully utilise all 4 GB.

If its normal XP 32-bit that you're running, then I suggest you sell 2 GB out of that RAM and use
the money gained to get a beefy video-card.  Anything from a 7900GS on up will suffice (for DX 9).
Also there are mainstream DX 10 video cards out as well (8800 GTS), with more to follow (86xx).

arc talkin gospel.

As is netizen. Could never have enough HD space. CNC3 is 8gb, not to mention a few other games in recent times. It only gonna get worse.

As for my upgrade fetish, I already have a meaty vid card, 7900 GT so I guess my upgrade wet dream is going to be dedicated to a new CPU.

A 2.4Ghz E6600 Core 2 Duo if lotto rolls around my way. If not, Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (2.4ghz) AM2

Then more ram, 2GB ftw.

Agreed.

Yeah, 4GB is really not gonna do you any good under XP 32-bit. Sell off half of that and save it towards the new GPU

CPU

I have a dream...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103864

Back to the reality of my bank account:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103778

What I would actually prefer, if I get the cash is the 5600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103771

GPU
heee heee....my other dream would prolly entail me having an 8800
Right now I have an ATi X1300...I'm think I'm going back to Nvidia though...looking at the reviews i haven't somehow found the confidence that it is worth upgrading to any of the higher-end ATi cards.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150183

I don't want to start an ATi and Nvidia war, but lets say compare the 7900 to the X1950...what do you think its the better deal.

RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146513

I don't think I'm going to go up to 4GB anytime soon(hmmm like sum ppl lol - but to each his own)..2GBs is enuff.

Other
Well I thinking about buying a new case, but what worries me is
1). FInding a really decent case down here for a reasonable price
2). If 1 isn't an option, shipping still going to kill me on bringing down a case
3). I can't lift most of the cases I really like. (Too weak and smallie)

Thinking about trying my hands at modding one of the cases I have home here....not too if that will end well.

Seeing that Flow going digital, might actually pick up one of these and run up MythTV
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146513

I think I've easily run over 6k there, now need to go find a 7k salary so I won't feel the pain lol.
If all goes well, I should be able to start building this system in about 4 months (put 1,500 of my salary towards it and I shud b good 2 go)

PS: Ohh I just read the Tom's hardware review, apparently the X1950 is kicking the 7900GT's @ss.
I still gonna stick with Nvidia simply b'c of the poor ATi  support for linux drivers
Sorry ATi, it doesn't please me much to catch my tail installing fglrx, and then still not be able to run beryl!!! I want to go round and round on my cube desktop..(thank you firefox for that nice little tab add-on, atlest I get to go round and round on firefox  - unfortunately a windows only add-on)

Mod edit: Don't double post please. Use next time

I knew it had a edit/modify button somewhere, didnt realize it was @ the top there. Tanks and sorry

yuh know what they say.. one man's garbage is another man's treasure.. lol

to paraphrase that, WASD's overly reliable board/chip/ram that he is tired of COULD BE disciple's upgrade from his 90's era rig

if ever u decide to offload them, i may be willing to take the lot off your hands ( sans video card) and depending on finances..lol
but all in good timing :-)

that aside, today i added USB 2.0 support to my desktop..lol..   cost me 60 bucks

OMG @ diciple's rig...that thing must be as old as the grim reaper himself (who is apparently good friends with diciple)

@ roodie. Whyyyyy are you going AMD CPU? (Notice i didn't say a DAAMIT combination since they seem to be coming out with some killer video parts very ver soon), which brings me to the opinion that you should wait to see what parts are coming out. Based on some UNCONFIRMED REPORTS, r600 goodness can be had for as low as $99!! c2d + r600 = happy upgrader.

mmmmmmmmmm

Berzerk is home in this forum

i didnt upgrade to any uber rig, but i must say my current specs are performing quite nicely

my board is a T6100 nforce4 939 (yea havent gone gone am2 yet maybe l8er this year) upgraded from my msi kt6v mobo

recently moved from an a64 3000+ to a64 3700+ san diego core 1mb cache (gargantuan improvement!) still weak chip but it will do till end of year or so...

slapped in 2 gigs of dual channel enabled ddr400 ram

went from x800 xl 256mb to a x1950 pro 256mb (wow @ new performance! :headbang:)

with 440 gigs of hard drive space (mixture of ide and sata, goin for a a maxtor sata ii 500 gig soon hopefully)

Also got a thermal take Viking sexxy black case with controllable fans, lcd temp display etc, and new apevia light color 500w power supply with adjustable fans and neon lights.

i do not tell a lie when i say, i am playing c@c3 completely maxed with over 50fps

fear maxed @ an average of 35fps

havent benchmarked oblivion but the gameplay is hitch free with most of eye candy on.

stalker with hdr lighting up and runnin runs smoothly......I am content...

Next up is a proper lcd, more hard drive space and new ups.

Right now -- on the advice of GATT members I'm looking at the 8800 to upgrade my graphics. But as all good things that will come in a timing.

Right now im working on 2 other systems (not personal)
I'll post on those later or tomorrow.
You know who's going to inherit the earth?  Arms dealers  because everyone else is to busy killing each other   That's the secret to survival  never go to war    Especially with yourself.
