TSTT has ADSL2+ infrastructure in place
« on: April 06, 2007, 06:28:40 PM »
A tstt tech confirmed that they do have ADSL2 infrastructure in place  ,  and it is functioning as we speak... My line quality dropped from an SNR of 20 ish to 5-6 , which on a speedstream 4200 meant 3k a second download speed and erratic behaviour .

Once they popped in a Paradyne ADSL2 modem it went back up to normal speed...

ADSL2 stats : Bandwidth as high as 24 megabits upstream , and 1mbit downstream depending on distance
Also the minimum range you have to live in to get the service is increased ,apparently to 6-7km ..

So TSTT does have the capacity to compete with flow , just a matter of time.. don't throw away them modems yet.

Yip, downstream = your download speeds...the chain up tho is that ISP's usually quote in megabits, whilst we the consumers read things in megabytes...which means you have to divide the ISP speed by 8, so 1Mbit = 128 kilobytes/sec.

And of course, upstream is your upload speed.

As opposed to what trini has posted...
ADSL2 is capable of 12Mbit (~1.5 megabytes) download speeds, and up to 3.5Mbit (~450KB) uploads depending on line condition.
ADSL2+ is capable of 24Mbit (~3MB) down and 1Mbit (~128KB) uploads, also depending on line conditions.

The other major feature of ADSL2+ is a little feature called port bonding, where multiple ports are provisioned to give an effective boost in speed equal to the sum of the provisioned ports...so 2 provisioned ADSL2+ lines = 48Mbit/sec (6MB).

So, they can compete with flow for speed. (as far I concerned they've always been able to compete with flow. They just have the LAN cable stuck too far up their pompous digital @$$e$ to care about us!)

What about PRICE? what about offering more than just 256K?

Nothing will change unless Flow has at least 70% of the country on digital cable...and prices to make TSTT take serious notice
God is dead.

remember, flow gets their internet from TSTT at the moment.

So no matter which way you go, you're supporting TSTT. lol

Only when flow run their own sub oceanic connection are things likely to change drastically.

TSTT may subsidize them just to keep that cable from being run because it would put them in serious serious trouble if someone else could offer cheap bandwidth and low latency.

FLOW: Spend millions upon millions to run sub oceanic cable or get relatively cheap net from TSTT? decisions decisions.

I'm hoping they go the cable route.

TSTT is starting Metro ethernet soon as well... think pretty current fibre tech backbones fibre/10/100/1000/10000 connections technically... I know only a little atm but as things become more transparent i'll update... of course this is a COmmercial service only and you'll pay thru ur nose...

Now when they start offering OC then i'll be impressed... sadly that may be when OC3 is as standard as dial up...

A tstt tech confirmed that they do have ADSL2 infrastructure in place, and it is functioning as we speak...

Hmm ... That is very interesting seeing as how I am 10 minutes from Valsayn and cannot get DSL since they launched. I would have concentrated on increasing coverage more than upgrading the infrastructure. More people = more $$$. Simple economics. Then again, is TSTT we dealing with.

Resurrecting this topic as I recently read on tsttproblems that TSTT is finally gonna be stepping up their game.

Talks about true broadband, cheaper DSL, at least quadruple speed, your choice of DSL modem (wifi, etc.)

Check it yourselves @ the above link. I don't think the Admin there would be pulling our collective chains just for so...

O_o @ price. Still, 400% more bandwidth currently offered by TSTT for just about 130% more $...hmmmmm...sweet. If they have a 512 unlimites plan, that seems like a viable alternative. let TSTT keep they measly 256k. BTW...anyone noticed that their bmobile network went almost completely dead wile it was raining today?
