Well try the mem in another machine if you can. I had a similar problem, the ram was good but it turned out the actual memory socket was bad.

well i suspecting the board bad both skts give the same trouble system guts out same prob...i just deciding what most cost effective : performace right now, as it is, i have no way to test the actual cpu, this board doesnt even give a post screen if it cannot boot, which is utter toots, so i deciding if to gamble the CPU unaffected and just buy a replacemnet board or spend the little extra for a small upgrade...

EDIT

this is the board i considering using to replace it

this is the toots board

I have a PCI POST diagnostic card.... gives you post error code, even if screen not showing... . If you living near Diego/POS I could loan you to test....

for the record I 'fraid ASRock like it was a PCChips (though my current and previous board are ASRock!!)

MSI has worked very well for me though...

that 'small upgrade'  you taking hopefully means a switch to socket AM2.  A Dual core processor can be obtained for under $100USD now. Sell the rest of stuff on the trading grounds.

0_0 i in central man, lol, truth is the guy drop his pc by me with a new setta ddr ram and wanted me to do a clean install for him to have a fresh pc, his current ram went, went out and bought new ram, $800, so i looking at sub 1000 to upgrade to either a 939/775 platform or sub 500 for a new board alone, i leaving it upto him, so far the board insist on the ram alone but i'm not one to gamble on uncertainty.

but i know for sure that it must support...
1. DDR400
2. AGP
thats it, he cant afford a new system right now, not with the ram he just buy...

i dont mind asrock boards, they are not the best, but they not the worst either.
MSI's boards i dont trust at all unless it's their high end boards, there is too big a drop off imo between the quality of thier low end and high end boards

i wanted to get a particular 775 board for him, the Asrock 775DualVSTA, i used it once before and cost : reliability its good, got agp/pci-e can support ddr400/ddr2533 so it have good future proofing, he can use his old stuff till it goes and then get the latest when he needs too.

My previous rig was an Epox... nforce3 Ultra...AGP 939.... but its still in use so I can't part with it.... on the other hand I can vouch for Epox making a decent product.
