Ok my computer is lets just say a magnet for viruses. Im completely erasing everything soon and i want to have some good protection this time so, Im installing AVG antivirus and Windows Defender i was just wondering what else i should install. Oh and im probably not gonna use firewalls much as i play alot of online games and download alot of p2p stuff.

there is a program called a squared and another called HiJack this (love that program got my browser hijacked once, sucked, took care of that), the free version have an 'immunisation' option, it kills alot of holes spyware and other forms of malware commonly use.
I see you using AVG, nice choice, (i use AntiVir my self, like the silent scanning and the only time i hear from it is when it updates).
Also Windows Defender is good but download the free version of spybot or adaware just for a secondary scanner (i use spybot) as it doesn't get everything.

and yuh good :D

just remember to update often, make no sense haveing all the prorgams in the world installed if yuh doh have the lates definitions now does it?

EDIT:
thought i'd mention this too, Adblock Plus and NoScript - Firefox ententions, the prior is a bit annoying at times (especially on multi layer flash sites, but it block alot of advertising that use malicious code in sites ).
NoScipt real boss to use for making sure only scripts you want to run, run. nice tool to stop malicious active x controls, and usless crap from loading (like some java ads)

Make sure when you start reinstalling software... your internet connection disabled...

Cuz viruses find there way in as early as the windows install...

AVG is decent, I use Zonealarm personal firewall, Adaware (Lavasoft) for spyware, I not big on defender... but I have it as an extra... spybot is also decent... other than those, which I use on a wide variety of machines... all I can say is STOP WATCHING NROP. That should significantly reduce ur viruses :p Also ccleaner is another good product and the best part is all the programs I named are FREE. I believe the firewall is the most important component in the list, with the antivirus in second and the malware in 3rd. Also you should be smart about what you surf/download on the internet. Avoid installing activeX scripts, avoid nrop sites, use googletoolbar (if on IE6) or Firefox which have built in pop-up blockers. Don't randomly click ads you see. As I said be smart. I've had no problems with several of my computers for a long time using these products. included P2P apps as well. Also update regularly and run scans at least once a week to be sure.

Well i play online games alot so if i get a firewall it would rarely be on ever lol. As for the NROP i aint on that i does download loads of anime though and ohter stuff via torrent/p2p. I just usually never used serious protection ( FOR MY PC PERVS ). My pc in a state that make Carnival look organized.

lol @ state of PC.

Great apps called there already.

Freebies to boot as w1ntry pointed out. No reason not to have 'em.

but yeah, as an online gamer the firewall can be a real hassle.

Look.

Run the bloody firewall.  You can open the ports you need to run your gaming apps without compromising the rest of your machine.   Running online with broadband without a firewall is asking for trouble and is the act of an uncaring n00b.

At worst, the XP firewall.  If you can, something better.  Hardware firewalls=good.

Do not use IE if possible.  Use Firefox (the latest version) or Opera (latest version)

Winpatrol is good to monitor your windows startup and prevent nasties from infecting ya.

for spyware, Adaware SE (update the definitions), Spybot S&D (most recent definition updates) AND Windows defender (set it up to update and scan regularly too) can coesist on your machine.

Do NOT run two virus scanners at the same time.

Bah setting up exceptions on firewall can be such a hassle but i guess i dont want to make my cpu same as it is now. And as for IE who uses this? it is completely ridiculous not only does the popup blocker not always work and their always seems to be some extra toolbars added on that u dont authorise but... when you surfing the net and have to see and i quote " Page cannot be found " and then you go on firefox and load the pages with no problem... thats all i got to say bout that lol.

I eh know what you talking about, Zonealarm will prompt you to allow or reject ALL apps that try to access the internet or your LAN. My Bro playing WOW all now, I play Dota, there may be a few teething problems at first, but a brisk alt-tab out of the app to click the ALWAYS checkbox + allow and talk done. Running on broadband without a firewall today as a man clearly said is n00blike and yuh looking for trouble. If ur pc is important you will take the time to do it right the first time, so that in 2 weeks yuh not back here asking the same questions again.
