As if the record weekend sales of the PS3 wasn't enough number crunching for one day, Chart Track has also announced that Nintendo's DS handheld has seen itself hit a milestone sales figure in the UK.
Chart Track, a company which monitors industry sales figures in the UK, estimates the combined sales of the traditional DS and DS Lite have hit the 3 million sales mark as of March 24th, 2007. Nintendo's handheld console has also seen itself take the largest share of the handheld market so far this year, accounting for 68% of sales.
The company attributes the success of the DS to the handheld's ability to appeal to non-gamers with titles such as Brain Age, Nintendogs, and Electroplankton.
Nintendo UK's general manager David Yarnton believes that this milestone sales figure is "a great testament to the strength of the DS hardware and software range". Yarnton is also adamant that this success will continue throughout 2007.
"With many more Touch! Generations games launching in 2007, Nintendo DS and Wii will continue to be the main driving forces behind the expansion of the videogame market this year," he says.
