Some other thoughts on 300....

Now before I start its not an attempt to overdramatise anything about racism and the implications of it. I am more interested if anyone here in particular had some similar thoughts as I had about the movie when I saw it.

For those who have not seen the show a few spoilers may be found below.


I thought 300 was a pretty good show I enjoyed it a lot but  when you look at some scenes in particular like the beheading of the the failed persian generals (which was a black guy) whose head was cut off spinning in the air on a large cinema screen, whilst again the black messenger kicked in a hole from the white spartan.

People overlty cheered over these scenes (maybe more for the graphic displays presented) but part of me took a few to think of what I was looking at. At times it may be a bit of over thought, but are we also too lapsed to think as well that for most cultures sometimes we aren't seeing Beautiful or respectful images of ourselves/the,selves on the screen (or the box as I like to call it - TVs, Computer screens, Posters, Billboards etc etc etc).

I could maybe write some more but I'm not that great at presenting my thoughts sometimes but I would appreciate interesting conversation on this point.

The movie is focused on action. No hard analysis or anything is necessary. Its just for enjoyment and visual effects. It was what i wantd and more in that department. .
Thing about reviewers is that they look for substance, for depth, for this and that....all these flaws and they cant get into the movie and enjoy it for what it is.O god no I analysing now...okay i done

I thought i was the only one. Imagine my cousin and myself were the ONLY 'coloured' people in the cinema which we would often joke about like for instance when he kicked the black guy in the pit  we were like "nah he didn't just kick a 'brother' down." But i don't care really as long as it didn't have any racial statement made i guess.

neg on freedom writers, Its easy to go off on a retarded racial tangent eh, but I  was wondering if anyone had the slightest of thoughts about those things, there are a number of people arguing/discussing this particular topic since the trailer first aired.

i kinda had some thoughts on this myself, but then i remembered the persian empire was widespread and extended into africa as well so that kinda stopped the rest of the thinking pattern.

is really just food for thought, and yes it is somewhat true they were black though it was mainly Egypt, I was using this movie in particular to make a point that  for non whites there are few on screen heroes gloriously portrayed. There are many stories out there, like hannibal who was black (vin diesel should be playing that charcater in 2008 however.

I wouldn't mind seeing something on Genghis Khan. Now that man was a beast if there ever was one. Man take over most of the world before he finished. See, Age of Empires was good for something.

I'd have to agree on laertes' post. That really could be something that can be misinterpeted as blatant racism, but I'm almost sure that that was certainly not the intention.

Yeah, I'd let this one slide.

There was equal opportunity beheading and gore for all creed and races in this show.

Down to the captain's son beheading was made into a slow mo gore fest.

As was the beheading of the berserk giant. His skin was white, for what that's worth.

A cosmopolitan cut down.

Had they only glorified the moments where black folks took a beating, I'd go with the race tangent.

Not so for this movie. Everybody got their just deserts.

One of the thoughts that came out of this is also something to see more non-white heroes aside from the racism just people of different colours represented more benevolently
