GAMRZ League Announcement: First Event at GATT HQ Sunday 1st April 2007

Some of you may have heard about this new league. It has been in the works for some time but has finally taken off.

Here are the details.

Brief
The revamped season of Gamrz will feature internet cafés in battle for café supremacy.  Our presenters will scour Trinidad to find the top 5 cafés that play all 5 of the featured video games on Gamrz.  The cafés will play against each other in a Round Robin tournament that will eventually eliminate one.  The remaining 4 will be randomly paired to battle each other for the chance to play in the Final to win cash prize as well as a Great Fete Weekend ticket combo (airline tickets and season passes).  The winning internet café will then get the opportunity to play in the Arena Bonus round to compete with the WIN TV Gamrz crew for the chance to qualify for Arena 2007.
 
The Game Plan
 
Episodes 1 to 10 – Round Robin
In the Round Robin stages each internet café will battle the other for the chance to score within the top 4 overall.  The café with the least points at the end of the Robin will be eliminated.
 
Episode 11 – Random Selection Semi-Finals
Following the Round Robin stages, the top four will be randomly paired to do battle with each other.  Other presenters will toss to each other from both locations.  The winners of each group will battle each other in Episode 12.
 
Episode 12 – Final
The Final round sees the top 2 internet cafes battle each other for the $5,000 prizes as well as the Great Fete Weekend package of 4 airline tickets to Tobago and 4 season passes to Great Fete Weekend (to be confirmed).
 
Episode 13 – Arena Bonus
In Episode 13 of Gamrz the champion internet café faces the Team Arena or Team WIN TV for the additional chance to automatically qualify for Arena 2007.
 
Games to be played are (one of 5 of the following):
Single Player
-         FIFA World Cup (PS2)
-         Tekken 5 (PS2)
-         Need for Speed
Team plays
-         War Craft (3v3)
-         Halo 2 (4v4)
Competition Venues:Each internet café will host some of the tournaments, including the Arena Bonus Final.  This will be mapped out once the top five cafes are sourced.  To qualify to participate, cafes must feature all of the five games and must possess strong team players.

Just got confirmation that the first Episode will be GATT HQ vs Virtual Zone at our location, 36a, Maraval Rd, St. Clair.

We need a strong Fifa and NFS player to represent.

I know we already have chuck loads of DOTA, Halo and Tekken players.

Baeg's you have already started and yet the information in your first post is quite scanty. Let me lend you a hand as to what I expect to see in your post.

1) Links to rules for each game, copy paste from another creditable league.
2) List of the TOP GLs with their players for each game
3) Schedule of events, keep a history in addition to your post place an entry in the first post.

Your idea and prizes look great but don't let this be another GATT event, gamers in the past have suffered because of GATTs poor organization.  Come on baegs pull this one off, its all for the gamers!

Well you have to excuse me because it is not a GATT event.

Nor were those in recent times that failed.

This is just information being passed unto me.

Feel free to ask questions however and I'll do my best to get the answers.

Shizz, you asked when it will be starting. It is in the subject title. Sunday 1st April 2007.

Got word yesterday that the first battle will be between Clan Carnage of DEST and GATT HQ on Wednesday 28th March 2007.

I do not know much about the background save that it is a TV series for a new Television Station called WINTV. Some international station.

Nor do I have details on the events themselves. Expect to get rules and regulations soon.

Out of curiousity, what titles would you have preferred to see?

Well COD would have been nice or even Unreal 2k4 or Battlefield 2142. Basically, WHERE ARE THE FPS's?!?

Got word today that the NFS Carbon is on PS2.

I hope flip able with that version to represent us. He tells me Django could make a few laps himself.

We will see how it goes.

Not FPS alone but at least one that represents the vast majority of what is played in the gaming community. I don't think that Halo is more popular than any of the others I called unless you talking about playing it on the Xbox.

well it does, but yu do know that console gaming is larger than pc gaming by a strong margin right?

so yeah it takes the lime light and well dota is the biggest competitive pc game in trinidad right now.

so it makes sense for dota to be the golden child of pc.

well ok this isnt a tournament though

this is promotion for the gaming scene in trinidad on a tv network, it is out of our hands and we really dont even have a choice in what was chosen.

But do realise that most genres were represented, so its a one off thing no biggy really.

If we can do THIS properly and well and they give us further shots in the future to show the true extent of the gaming community then we will be set.

Buh if from now we doh wanna do wat they trying to do, then who says we will get another chance!

i mean iam really really pissed off that is one team per cafe and is three v three for the dota
that totally is not in correalation with the dota scene in trinidad and worldwide, buh this is just a show and tell of sorts.

lets do this right and give them our best puppy dog eyes when asking for more

This is precisely the way to approach it.

Just as laertes said, these sort of event gets pitched to us by people who are not hardened gamers nor members of the association.

We can either 1) slap them silly and in so doing damage their ego and any chance of them working with us

or 2) try our best to work along with them to forge a relationship (and trust) that will put us in a position to influence the next project/endeavour.

I'm going with option 2.

Now not everyone comes at us this way. CaribbeanGameFreaks for example were much more open to our suggestions on which games to run and which organisations to align themselves with. Pity they did not deliver on the goods.

These guys from WinTv/GAMRZ passed and said "this is what we doing" and we are playing along nicely.

The information is relayed and as questions are asked, they get passed along.

Remember, it is not our event but as a gaming event and a league on TV, I'd expect gamers would support.

People play Dota, tekken, halo, nfs and fifa all the time. Not exactly asking for a man to go and learn calculus here.
