Gears of War: The Movie

Variety reports that New Line Cinema has grabbed the rights to produce a film based on the smash hit Xbox 360 game Gears of War. So far, the production team consists of Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill Productions, who have been responsible for such films as The Nativity Story.

The script will be penned by Stuart Beattie, who has written the screenplays for the films Derailed and Collateral, in addition to partially contributing to the Pirates of the Caribbean series. According to the report, Beattie has already completed a 21-page treatment of the film, which helped to facilitate the deal.

Of course, as we have seen all too many times before, the awarding of movie rights does not always guarantee a finished product. The Halo series itself also had high hopes with its own movie project to be produced by none other than Peter Jackson, but a squabble over the film's budget led to its eventual demise.

heh. no kidding about the nativity story....but think about it too.....that's opposite ends of the spectrum...you go from the tender birth of Christianity's savior of mankind, to death, bloodshed, and bodies everywhere!

 By the time this movie rears it's head they could very well use the GOW3 engine to render the whole damn movie :p fiah for hollywood... the way I see it, the IN-GAME rendered movie scenes were off the shiznit, let de damn game makers make a CGI movie and done. Sheesh...

Hmm ... I really don't see a decent movie being made of this IP. Of course, the game is real bad but it is an action game that does not really need much in the way of a plot. God of War on the other hand ...
