Help Port forwarding
« on: March 10, 2007, 07:16:31 PM »
Ok well i have emule it is needed to download the roms from http://www.nintendo-ds-roms.com/ which i am using only for backup  purposes. This site happens to be the only one that is safe from the ds virus so no links please.

Ok problem is emule detects i have low id . Low id happens when it cant get full access to your computer and it stops you from connecting to the majority of other members. I have no firewall nor router to block its passage and i was wondering can XP service pack 2 do this? and if so can i stop it so that i can download stuff?

All help apreciated thanx :P

Ok i went on some tutorials online to find out why my p2p programs are blocking alot of connections, they p2p programs say its my router. Now i have my ip and router ip but there are like different tutorials for different types of routers and i dont know which one i have. The router supposedly come with tstt dsl modem so if anyone can help me configure port forwarding for better p2p use id apreciate it.

i have speedstreem dsl and i went on portforward.com and they say i need to make a static ip so i have to find out my dns adress so i have to call tstt. Ill do that tomoro but who come up with this stupid idea to block all this crap it should be the owners choice.

Ok BloodWar this is what u have to do log into your router by putting http://192.168.254.254, after logging in go to Setup then Firewall scroll down u will then see DMZ option, put the ip address that your router dhcp server gives to your computer (usually 192.168.254.1), put this ip in the DMZ field check Make Settings Permanent radio botton save settings the reboot the adsl modem.

and your done.

Ok BloodWar... I merged these two topics because it's all tied together really...

Firstly, you need to pay attention to what you're reading online... Read it twice just to make sure

I really don't know how you can't follow the steps from www.PortForward.com
You want a direct link? Here That's the link to the SpeedStream 5200 from TSTT. More or less, it's the same steps for all the other Speedstream modems.

And by the way, yes you have a router... they don't really make plain old DSL modems anymore, more to the point, TSTT doesn't supply anything other than routers (Paradyne or Speedstream)

For your particular question, RE: Emule,  this is the guide here

Putting your computer's IP in the DMZ is not really recommended because then you may as well not have a router or firewall. Simply forward your ports and not open up your whole computer to attacks.

i was following the steps for the shareaza guide from portforward another edonky p2p that i use more often and it said i need a static ip adress to continue and that i would need a my DNS adress which i would have to call my isp provider for.

i am 100% sure i dont have a firewall it is the router blocking i removed tstt firewall within the first week of having my pc and online games wouldnt work if it came back up.

Ah ok, you mean to set the static IP on your computer you need the DNS server's IP

well that's typically the same as the gateway, which is your dsl router (For example: 192.168.254.254)

Best way to get that sorta info is to check what it is when you set the PC to DHCP (ie not static IP). Write it down, (default gateway, subnet mask, DNS server) and then give yourself a static IP making sure to use the information you just wrote down.
