i know how to open the case etc
but i just cant find the slot it goes in
does this mean i need a new motherboard?

LOL! can't find the slot? a 13 year old who fails maths each year [me] can find the slot, its the smallest slot on the board , between the PCI slots where the sound card is and the RAM and CPU area .
If you have a PII or better you have the slot

what kind of Asus geforce 4?? some 4's are built for PCI instead of AGP.

most likely u lookin for an agp slot which is normally brown in colour right nex 2 the pci slots, if u dont have that then u need 2 geh a new motherboard which has one

PCI slow no ass. Save your money and pick up a cheap AGP-capable board. The Biostar AMD ones start at about $500.

lol who sold you/parent that pc? another compaq? PCI cards are generally slow , the fastest you would find would be a voodo 5 PCI , just slightly faster than a geforce 2 . you should trade in the mobo for a new AGP slot mobo . If the geforce is an MX 420 return it for a geforce 2 ultra [ which is the same thing ] it would be cheaper . Geforce 4s are still lot better than FXs tho . stick to the non fx cards and you will be a happy gamer .
Make sure you get the RIGHT agp slot , there are 1x 2x 4x and 8x .
