lol
cuz vista is the new pony
i'm sure you could prolly get XP if you wanted, but for advertising sake, it'd hurt them if they offered xp off the bat, instead of vista

that and ms prolly have the oem gun to their head  lol

Yeah I read about this in a magasine a while back where they changed the location of thheir base of operations back to where they originally started. Obviously all new machines coming out wil come with Vista. Almost no one anywhere will be selling any new machine with XP still cuz vole simply won't allow it. Where do you think the vast majority of Vista sales will come from? OEM copys on new pc's.

If anyone hasn't noticed, Dell hasn't started shipping its 'gaming rigs' aka XPS with Vista and there is a perfectly logical explanation for this, THERE AREN'T ANY GAMES FOR IT YET. Thus I have to agree with the person who said that's the sucky part. Apart from that, there is 1 more thing that doesn't make sense for a Vista gaming rig, its' using DX9 CARDS.... IDIOTS imho.

what i would do (had i acquired one) :

-install xp and throw way vista (since it is home version and 32 bit, why bother with a 32 bit current gen os?)
-hit up another hdd for raid 5 (or another 2 for raid 0 & 1, since raid0 alone is suicide), OR get a BIG external back up
-change the stock cooling if it not sufficient

As with many PC sites, couldn't you just SELECT Windows XP as the Operating system INSTEAD of Vista? just a thought...

makes sense

but why fuss about the 32bit vista? I don't see that many real world advantages for 64bit os over 32bit yet.

Or have I been sleeping on myself?

4000 USD?  I can build a better one for 2000 . 8800GTX ftw... Though' 'better'' is subjective , i'd get an E6300 and wait for quad core to come down and save cash or something , but it would be better for my and most people's gaming needs.

Good point.  They need to ship that with dual 8800GTX cards instead.

Or have I been sleeping on myself?

Only reason I want 64 bit, is 4+ GB memory. still room in 32 bit instruction base for more simd instructions.
64 is still poorly supported, so 32 is fine for now. would be nice if one cd held both. no need for xp is all the games work, and while i'd reformat, i wont get rid of vista. maybe a dual boot for games like cod2 that need open al, but otherwise, if I had that, i'd maintain vista to see how well it's coming along.
:P random text doesn't go out of date does it?
