tekken 6 update
« on: February 19, 2007, 12:09:26 AM »
so far we have 2 new characters, a rock howard wannabe named leo and a girl that i heard someone say resembles morgan from x-play named zafina.... new characters don't make a game

largest cast of characters ever....still doesn't make a game (thinks about MK Armageddon)

evolved fighting system...still doesn't make a game, might even spoil it (thinks about tekken 4...then sighs...)

more new characters on the way....if jun isn't in the new line up then i don't care about anyone that's new...(unless those bastards replace julia which will make me hate tekken)

it's supposed to come out in arcades in 2k7 (late 2k7 i think)

improved graphics...well duh, like we wasn't expecting that....early screens still aren't doing much but then we're exposed to a lot more next gen graphics so it's either not all that or  going to be improved a lot more (since tekken usually has some of the best graphics for the console)
i'm also not sure how arcade graphics match up to next gen consoles and the screens are supposed to be arcade...

http://www.tekken-official.jp/tk6ac/index.html

hopefully that evolved fighting system stays close to tekken3/tekken5 since those were the best in the series.

if it's anything like tekken 5 it's worth buying a ps3 for imo (with ff13 as another incentive).

not sure how leo and zafina fits in to anything but hopefully these characters aren't just new faces with little importance like the new faces that came with tekken 5

How does Tekken 4 lack where 3 has its stregths?
What can you do to end the hunger?
It's no surprise that many will die with the coming shortage of food
When there is no grain to feed the butchered cows
When there is nothing to feed yourselves...
Then you will see that money can't be eaten.

he meant the change in fighting system from 3 to 4 sucked.

it really did, iam guessing he also means what they did to jin.

yeah the change in 4 from 3 sucked and you're crazy if you don't fine so too. hell you couldn't even simply jump backwards like normal games (not saying that jumping backwards is some life saving move or anything, but where's the freedom damn it)

as for jin...i hated jin since my bro used to use him all the time, so i had my laughs in tekken 4. i actually use jin in tekken 5 which plays like tekken 4 jin he isn't that bad imo

I don't think so. But I am crazy. So there's the proof of your assertion.

But I've had this discussion before with a lot of tournament level fighters (by no means am I one, eh...just saying i've talked to guy who know the mechanics in and out) and though some (quite a few actually) have said they didn't like the changes many others have had little complaint. I'd take 8-way-running over back jumping anyday. That's just me. Btw...I haven't played the game in a long while but isn't the input for back jump just just tapping ub? My only realy problem with Tekken 4 was how much walls could be abused. But really...what specific aspects of the game made it worse?

I don't know about Jin. I've never been a Jin fan. He doesn't really exist to me, honestly. But I've been told that though his moveset changed drastically from 3 to 4...his tier raised as well.

i woudlnt say his tier raised at all, since he was already top tier

and the change was ridiculously drastic, they said he dropped the mishima style because he hated kazuya and gramps so much yadda yadda, but then he also dropped kazama style AND he dropped all the moves that he himself added to mishima style, that made no sense.

and yes omfg the wall abuse in 4 and 5 is ridiculous. but even more so is the over reliance now on juggles as the only form of competitive play.

basically all tekken has become is a race to see who can launch a juggle first thats it. catch a man in a launcher and the round is over basically.

unlike in soul calibur where you can simply hold G and guide yurself in a direction out of the path of a juggle. there by making juggling only an ASPECT of the game and not the whole point like tekken has now become.

I think Jin was high-mid in T3. I'll -never- find a tier list for that tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

I don't know...to me...Tekken has been this game for a while for the just above average skill tekken player. Poke-Poke-Juggle. The reason you didn't see it too much in T3 is because most Tekken players started on T3 (specifically on the PS before they migrated to the arcade). This kind of play was present in tournament level Tekken 3 and to infuriating amounts in TTT. It was bad in Tekken 4 because I think T4's gravity was slower.  I'm not too sure. Not nearly as bad in T5 though. T5 just is the best Tekken game out there. Anything else is nostalgia.

Anyway... Tekken 5 at high level play consists of fast paced poking, baiting/trading and mind games because most of those players KNOW that depending on launchers will be punished. It all depends on your level of play, I guess.

i wouldnt say that at all
triple t was great, cause you could play several matches with out it being decided solely on a juggle

now in t5, its impossible.

for 2 reasons, there are an abnormal amount of launchers per person, and secondly cause its so easy to launch, its the only thing players bother to use,

spend time looking for a hole, then oh look at that a launcher to juggle to what is that an invisible wall? beautiful juice juice juice

tekken 4 was like sc3 where you must press a button with the ub to jump back, and since tekken doesn't have a guard button you must press a cuff or kick, and tekken 5 does have 8-way running (sorta), but requires a tap then hold of the cross botton. a much better alternative.
it was also considerably slower than tekken3 (tekken3 felt like dbz after playing 4)

and i do know people that won tekken3 tourneys that hate tekken 4 (ok maybe i know someone).

and jin tier kinda raised due to the increased speed they gave him. his style is close, fast, short combos that usually distress opponents when close enough (think bryan)

as for the wall abuse, in 5 it's ok, in 4 it seemed overdone, the gameplay seemed to focus on who could get their opponent against a wall first...

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't see juggles "deciding" games in T5 except for some specific characters (COUGH NINA) and there are no more launchers than usual since characters have more or less retained their same move sets thought move properties have changed. Bleh. Whatever.

jin was top tier in tekken 3 and  god tier in tekken 4, in tekken 3 ogre took the god tier title for sure.

tekken 6 looks ok to me, I'm not hyped at all like I was for tekken 5, probably because they still can't produce some mc better graphics than tekken 5 DR. Bryan has a gun now woohoo..he is now the cable of tekken lol.

I for one liked tekken 4, the different planes meant you'd have to adjust juggles to suit, but walls really ruined the game especially in that arena stage.

i really wonder how much can tekken evolve now. To me all these "new" tekken games will just be patches with added content, meh guilty gear is pretty much the same now.

well no thats not true about nina alone as a juggler

that totally not true at all

infact i would say that the vast majority of characters save 1 or 2 rely on juggles in t5
steve doesnt need juggles, buh hes one of the few that dont

i play and watch tekken 5 being played almost every day at tech and they play every character and the level of juggling is ridiculous

Not to sound like a mc but most local tekken players do the most absurd and stupid things. Tekken is also noob friendly to an extent. Also tekken 5 (ps2) is now outdated by 2 revisions, so if anyone here has plans to go abroad and play get a PS3 and pay your money for Tekken 5 DR.

*me looks at certain player who say he going evo this year to play tekken 5*

Wayyyy was able to stand with the best of them in 4, then 5 came out and i was nothing...:(
as for juggles, I have to say the best I've ever seen in 4 has to be Kazuya's EWGF x4 (or x5)
and nina....whew all I hadda say about she, is wait for a quick backstep and PUNISH

hahahaha just saw the trailer, bryan must think he's Dante
