Mona Lisa's grave discovered! Err....yay?
« on: January 22, 2007, 10:52:54 AM »
I guess a few of us have decided to take some slack off of disciple for being the bearer of morbid news..... (sorry, disciple. =P) Have a peek.

http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2007/01/19/monalisa_his.html?category=history&guid=20070119134500&&clik=news_tkr

So, they found Mona Lisa. The question is...exactly what do they do with this discovery?

More importantly... who cares? I mean really... they dig up a dead body for what? I am sure she not smiling like that timeless painting no more... couldn't they use the money that funded this to do something more useful... like say oh... help world hunger? no that would be benefiting mankind on a real... ah well pfft.

Back on track.....I seriously don't know what the big deal was in finding out where the Mona Lisa was buried. Other than lending her likeness to one of the world's most famous paintings, she didn't have really much else to do with the Renaissance era. Now, if they dug up Jimmy Hoffa, that would be news, because the location of his body is one of the biggest mysteries yet to be solved. Well, okay, maybe not the biggest, but it's a hundred times more significant than digging up the body of Mona Lisa.

Thanks NEO. Really, thanks.... I was about to run over W1ntry for such a frivolous action...

While finding mona lisa'a grave won't be the hottest thing since Kiss sliced Bread.I am curious as to how the discoverer was able to track down the location... It must have took some years of Uber-class research and digging...

P.S. That jimmy Hoffa bit is rather interesting though...

was watching a rerun of CSI earlier and they found this body, but badly decomposed (down to da bone). and what they did was do some computer thingy with lasers and stuff and built like a mould to go with the bone structure so they can see who the person was. it would be cool if they tried that so the world can see mona not only as a painting.

also. who here find mona was a looker (a bess ting). hmmmm something to poll about right thurr.

If it was getting out of hand, well, no problem there. Two posts, though....not really doing much harm.

But, you do raise a good point. I've come to realise that the sum and total of whatever posts are made here would be "Digging up the Mona Lisa was a waste of time." As such, I was going to lock it again, but choxlate may be on to something, so I'll let it linger a bit longer.

Actually, in my opinion....Mona looked pretty bland. I wouldn't be surprised if she was one of those Goths in high school. Maybe she looked better in real life, seeing as how paintings were a bit deviant from being actually realistic, but...I guess we'll never know. Kinda makes you wish Leonardo invented the camera back then, eh?

If nothing else, desicrating the remains of said portrait model is an effort to disprove some of the rumours about the origin of the painting... also, how did they 100% determine that this is indeed the correct grave. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge gained through achaeology and otherwise reasons for raising the dead (like using updated tech to catch criminals etc) but I can't really see how this benefits anyone at all. I hope the relations of this person whomever they are have given consent to this act, otherwise I mean how would you like if someone dug up your great great great aunt to ??? 0_o

I think oddest things that came up about the Mona Lisa are the theories and fiction that the painting may hide some form of code by Da Vinci. It's entirely plausible- Leonardo was known to use coded language (some of it comprises him actually his writing words backwards.) What makes me wonder is....what makes the Mona Lisa so unique that that particular painting is always defined as the one with any possible hidden messages?

Perhaps it was his greatest rouse... and his hidden messages are in other works of art, just to draw off attention he made the mona lisa seem like the secret vessel...
