umm when did the xbox play HD (1080)? I presume you mean Xbox 360 and even so, when did that become < 300USD even for the base model? that aside the 360 can play HD content without a player like powerdvd.

That's strictly for playing HD-DVD discs. However the Xbox 360 on its own can play HD content which is downloadable from Xbox Live.

True true

another note, blu-ray players and now burners are also $500

when the burners hit $300 pirates will flood, when they hit $150-$200 everyone will start getting their own for their comps, and dmr will go byebye aas hacks destroy any protection.

you dont need the xbox - the drive is usb and just $200, no xbox 360 required.

So what are you hooking said USB drive up to to display to the HDTV? Not a PC with HDCP output? or at least composite of HDMI? how is this easier, cheaper or better than just buying a 360?

True. It's unfortunate that the price of LCD monitors and HDTVs in T&T are not what their US couterparts sell them at. We still paying a hefty premium on these things and alot of them are still analog (for LCDs) vs at least DVI. As for HDTVs. Well I honestly haven't shopped around much cause well thats for the more well off, but its not cheap. A friend bought a 60" Plasma HD recently...24K.... I am sure though GOW would look SPECTACULAR on it.

Prices here are outrageous! very very out of hand,

What I see happening soon is people will be getting blue ray and hddvd drives ( or super units ) for their pcs soon.

Now back to monitors, since I have component y/c inputs I can get hdmi to yc and show hd content. BUT the probelm is still the hd content it self!

No one here has it!
